Henry Strobel, Ph.D., named 2008 recipient of the TIAA-CREF Distinguished Medical Educator Award

Award ceremony paid tribute to esteemed professor’s 38 year career in medical education Award

TIAA-CREF, a national financial services group and the leading provider of retirement services in the academic, medical and research fields announced that Henry W. Strobel, Ph.D., professor of biochemistry and molecular biology and associate dean for faculty affairs at The University of Texas Medical School at Houston, is the 2008 recipient of the TIAA-CREF Distinguished Medical Educator Award. Strobel is the third faculty member at the UT Medical School at Houston to earn this honor.

The award, founded by TIAA-CREF and supported by the John P. McGovern Museum of Health and Medical Science (also known as The Health Museum), is given annually to honor teaching physicians, nurses and other health care professionals for their outstanding work, significant contributions and exceptional influence in the field of medical education. The award carries a $10,000 honorarium for the recipient and 20 scholarships to The Health Museum's mini medical camp donated in the recipient's name.

iModules Scholarship Program

iModules, an online alumni community, will provide individual $2,500 scholarships to five students enrolled in secondary or higher education institutions that are current iModules clients. The iModules Educational Scholarship Program was established in March 2008 and was founded on the belief in assisting students with pursuing their educational goals.

Spring 2009 Schedule of Classes

The spring 2009 Schedule of Classes is currently available at the Registrar's Office.

For Dental Hygiene, Dental Postgraduates, Nursing, Medical Clinical Research, Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, Health Information Sciences and Public Health students' registration begins Monday, Nov. 17. Open registration is from Saturday, Nov. 22 - Friday, Jan. 9.

Late registration for Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, Medical Clinical Research, School of Nursing, School of Health Information Sciences and School of Public Health students is open Monday, Jan. 12 -Friday, Jan. 16 ($15 late fee). Late Registration for Dental Postgraduates is open Monday, Jan. 5 -Friday, Jan. 9 ($15 late fee).

Learn how education in the academic world is being rapidly shaped by these emerging technologies in Emerging Technologies for Teaching, Learning & Research, 5 - 8 p.m., Tuesdays beginning Jan. 13, at the University Center Tower, room 1414.
